Surrey Wedding Photographer Packages Explained (What You Actually Need vs What You Don’t)
Wedding photography packages can feel overwhelming. This guide breaks down what’s actually worth booking, what you can skip, and how to choose coverage that fits your wedding day without added stress.
If you’ve started looking into wedding photography packages, you’ve probably noticed how confusing it can feel. Some photographers offer hourly coverage, some offer full-day only, some include extras you don’t fully understand, and others don’t list prices at all.
It’s completely normal to feel unsure about what you actually need and whether you’re about to overspend, or worse, under-book and regret it later.
As a wedding photographer working across Surrey and Hampshire, I speak to couples every week who feel overwhelmed by package options. This post is here to break things down in a simple, honest way, so you can make a confident decision that suits your day.
Why Surrey Wedding Photography Packages Can Feel Overwhelming
Unlike booking a venue or a caterer, photography isn’t always easy to visualise in advance. You’re not just booking hours of coverage, you’re booking experience, storytelling, and someone you’ll spend most of your wedding day with.
If you’ve been searching for wedding photography Surrey or Surrey wedding photography prices, you’ll have seen a huge range of options. That’s because no two weddings are the same, and there isn’t one “correct” package that suits everyone.
The key is understanding what coverage actually gives you, and what parts of the day you’d be disappointed not to have photographed.
The Most Common Wedding Photography Package Options
Full-Day Wedding Photography
Full-day wedding photography packages usually start with preparations, and finish after the main evening moments. This option is ideal if you want the full story of your day captured naturally, without rushing or clock-watching.
From a candid wedding photography point of view, this is often the best option because it allows space for real moments to unfold. You’re not trying to squeeze important parts of your day into a limited window, and your photos feel more relaxed and complete.
Couples who choose full-day coverage often value:
Natural, unforced storytelling
Capturing moments they didn’t even notice happening
Having a gallery that feels like a true reflection of the day
Half-Day Wedding Photography
Half-day wedding photography packages can work well for smaller weddings, shorter timelines, or more intimate celebrations.
If you’re planning an intimate ceremony, a relaxed afternoon reception, or a shorter day overall, this can be a sensible option. The most important thing is making sure the coverage aligns with the moments you care about most.
This is where a conversation with your photographer really matters. They should help you work out what makes sense, not push you into more than you need.
Hourly Coverage (When It Works and When It Doesn’t)
Hourly coverage can be tempting, especially when you’re trying to keep an eye on your budget. In some cases, it works well. In others, it can add unnecessary stress.
The downside of very limited coverage is that weddings rarely run exactly to schedule. If things run late, you may find yourself worrying about time rather than enjoying the moment.
From experience, couples who book very short coverage sometimes wish they’d allowed a bit more breathing room especially for candid moments that can’t be planned.
Extras: What’s Actually Worth Considering?
You might see packages that include things like second photographers, albums, or engagement shoots.
Some of these can be useful, depending on your day, but none of them are essential for everyone. A good photographer will explain why something might help, not just list it as an upsell.
The most important thing isn’t how many extras are included, it’s whether the coverage fits your day and your personalities.
What Really Affects the Price of Wedding Photography in Surrey
If you’re comparing Surrey wedding photography prices, it’s worth understanding what goes into them. For full details see my blog ‘How Much Does a Wedding Photographer Cost in Surrey?’.
Pricing is influenced by:
Experience and consistency
The time spent photographing and editing
The level of care taken in storytelling and delivery
The reassurance of knowing your day is in safe hands
A full-day wedding often represents many days of work behind the scenes, not just the hours spent at your wedding.
How to Choose the Right Surrey Wedding Photographer Package for Your Wedding
Instead of starting with “what’s the cheapest option?”, try asking:
What moments would we be most upset not to have photographed?
Do we want our day documented naturally, or just key events?
Do we want to feel rushed, or relaxed?
The right wedding photography package should support your day, not dictate it.
My Approach to Wedding Photography Packages
I keep my packages simple and transparent, because I know how frustrating it can be to feel in the dark when planning a wedding.
My focus is on relaxed, candid coverage that allows you to enjoy your day fully, without feeling like you’re being photographed every second. I’m always happy to talk through timelines and help couples choose coverage that genuinely suits them.

What is candid wedding photography (and is it right for you?)
Candid wedding photography focuses on real moments, not posing. This guide explains what it really means, who it’s for, and how to decide if it’s right for your wedding day.
When couples start planning their wedding, photography is often one of the first things they book, but also one of the most confusing. You might love certain wedding photos, but struggle to explain why. Or you might worry that being photographed all day will feel awkward or unnatural.
If you’re searching for a wedding photographer Surrey, or even a wedding photographer UK, you’ve probably come across phrases like candid, documentary, or natural wedding photography and wondered what they actually mean.
This post is here to explain candid wedding photography in a simple way, and help you decide whether it’s the right fit for you, so when it comes to choosing a photographer, you know exactly what to look for.
What Is Candid Wedding Photography?
Candid wedding photography focuses on real moments as they naturally happen, rather than staged or heavily posed shots. It’s about documenting the day as it unfolds; the laughter, nerves, hugs, happy chaos, and quiet moments in between.
A candid wedding photographer isn’t directing every interaction or constantly asking you to pose. Instead, they observe, anticipate moments, and capture genuine emotion.
This style is closely linked to documentary wedding photography, where the goal is to tell the story of your day honestly, rather than create a series of set-up wedding pictures. Below is an example from a recent wedding I shot of candid wedding photography. You can view more examples of my candid and documentary style wedding photography here.
How Is Candid Wedding Photography Different from Traditional Wedding Photography?
Traditional wedding photography often involves more structured posing and direction. That works beautifully for some couples, especially those who enjoy being guided.
Candid or documentary wedding photography, on the other hand, suits couples who:
Want their photos to feel relaxed and natural
Prefer moments over perfection
Don’t want to feel like they’re “performing” for the camera
If you’ve ever looked at wedding photos and thought, “I feel like I was there,” (A true reaction I once had from someone’s grandma, who couldn’t come to the wedding) chances are they were taken by a documentary wedding photographer.
What If We Feel Awkward in Front of the Camera?
This is one of the most common concerns couples have and it’s completely normal. And as someone who feels the same, trust me when I say I understand. I hate being in front of the camera so much that I’ve made a career out of staying behind it!
Most people aren’t used to being photographed professionally. That’s why choosing a natural wedding photographer like me matters so much. Someone experienced will know how to put you at ease, blend into the background, and guide you gently when needed without making things feel forced.
As a professional wedding photographer, my aim is always to make couples feel comfortable enough to forget about the camera altogether. That’s when the most meaningful moments happen.
Is Candid Wedding Photography Right for You?
Candid wedding photography might be right for you if:
You want your photos to reflect how the day felt, not just how it looked
You value emotion and connection over perfect poses
You want to enjoy your wedding without constant interruption
It works beautifully whether you’re planning something intimate or a bigger celebration, whether you’re working with a Surrey wedding photographer, a Hampshire wedding photographer, a Berkshire wedding photographer or a UK photographer further afield.
Wondering how much a candid wedding photographer Surrey UK costs? You can get read more about this in my ‘How much does a wedding photographer cost’ guide.
Does Experience Still Matter?
Absolutely. While candid photography is about moments rather than backdrops, experience still counts.
A skilled wedding photographer will understand how to work with different lighting, venues, and timelines without disrupting the flow of the day. Whether it’s a town venue, countryside setting, or somewhere completely new, experience photographing weddings before allows your photographer to adapt calmly and confidently.
How to Find the Right Photographer for You
When trying to find a wedding photographer, look beyond single images. Spend time with full galleries - your photographer should provide you with some when you enquire. Notice how people interact, how moments unfold, and whether the photos feel honest.
Ask yourself:
Do these photos feel natural?
Can I imagine myself in them?
Would I feel comfortable around this person all day?
If the answer is yes, you’re probably on the right track.
Looking for a Natural, Candid Wedding Photographer?
If you’re drawn to natural wedding photography and want your wedding photos to feel relaxed, genuine, and full of real moments, I’d love to hear about your plans.

How much does a wedding photographer cost | Surrey wedding photographer UK
Surrey wedding photography prices can be overwhelming. If you’ve sifted through the hundreds of options that appear when searching for wedding photographer Surrey, but you still don’t know the average cost of wedding photography prices and packages, you’re not alone. This guide will give you a clear idea of wedding photography prices and packages across Surrey.
One of the first questions most couples ask when planning their wedding is: “How much does a wedding photographer cost in Surrey?”
If you’ve been browsing online, it’s natural to wonder about the true cost of wedding photography prices and packages in Surrey. You’ve probably noticed that prices vary wildly. A lot of photographers don’t display their prices at all, which can be frustrating when you’re trying to work out your wedding budget. Which is the reason I always list my prices clearly on my packages and pricing page. Understanding wedding photography prices can help you plan your costs and make a confident decision, which you can read more about here.
Whether you’re searching for a Surrey wedding photographer, or you’re getting married elsewhere in the UK, this guide will explain what affects the price of a photographer and give you a realistic idea of the average cost of a photographer.
If you’re still at the very beginning of your search, you might also find it helpful to read my guide on how to choose a wedding photographer in Surrey without feeling overwhelmed.
Why wedding photo prices vary
Not all Surrey wedding photographers charge the same. Here are the main factors that influence wedding photo prices:
1. Experience and Style
A lot of couples are surprised at how much experience and planning goes into becoming a professional wedding photographer Surrey. It’s not just about showing up and clicking the shutter, weddings are full of one off moments that often happen in a split second. It’s about knowing how to anticipate these moments, position yourself for the best light, and make sure the day flows smoothly while everyone feels relaxed.
You’re not just paying for a person with a camera. You’re paying for years of practice, problem-solving on the spot, knowing how to capture emotion without interrupting the day, and editing thousands of photos afterward, one by one, to make them look timeless.
A candid wedding photographer in Surrey understands how to capture real, unposed moments that you’ll treasure forever which is why experience is such a big part of the price.
2. Coverage Time
Most wedding photographer Surrey UK packages are based on hours. Full-day coverage costs more than a half-day package.
Longer coverage ensures every part of your day is documented, creating a complete story in your wedding photos, so no precious moment goes unnoticed.
3. Editing and Post-Production
Every photo is individually edited for colour, tone, and consistency. This is time-consuming work that is reflected in wedding photography prices.
Even if a photographer seems affordable on the day, remember that high-quality wedding photography involves many hours behind the scenes.
4. Travel and Venue Considerations
Some venues may require extra planning for lighting, space, and timing. Travel costs may also be included for weddings outside the photographer’s usual area to cover transport fees and a place to stay if the venue is far from the photographer's home.
5. wedding photography packages and deliverables
Some wedding photographers include albums, prints, or a second shooter as part of their packages, while others offer them as additional ad on’s, or not at all. Knowing exactly what your wedding photography package includes ensures there are no surprises later.
Why Price Isn’t the Only Thing That Matters
Choosing a wedding photographer isn’t just about cost. Your wedding photos are the only lasting record of your day, and investing in someone whose style and approach you love ensures your memories are captured beautifully.
A candid wedding photographer in Surrey can capture authentic emotion, laughter, and connection, creating images that feel natural rather than staged.
Don’t worry if your photographer hasn’t shot at your venue before. A professional approach and experience with multiple venues ensures your photos will be stunning no matter where you’re getting married.
Things to ask your photographer to get the most value from your budget
Ask about what’s included: coverage hours, number of images, prints, albums
Ask to see some full galleries, not just highlights
Check their style: do they align with your vision for candid wedding photography
Meet them or schedule a call: feeling comfortable with your wedding photographer makes a huge difference
When you understand surrey wedding photography prices and what affects them, you’ll feel confident in your decision and avoid any surprises.

Things to Ask Your Wedding Photographer (And How to Know You’ve Found the Right One)
Choosing a wedding photographer can feel overwhelming. This guide walks you through the most important things to ask your wedding photographer, helping you feel confident, relaxed, and sure you’ve found the right fit for your day.
Choosing a wedding photographer can feel overwhelming, especially when you search for things like “wedding photographer Surrey UK” and you’re met with hundreds of results. You might love someone’s photos but still feel unsure. Will we feel comfortable? Will the photos feel like us? What if we make the wrong choice?
If you’re currently searching for a wedding photographer, you’re probably trying to balance excitement with a lot of uncertainty. This guide is here to give you a checklist of things to think about, and questions to ask, so you can understand what actually matters and feel confident in your decision.
If you’re still at the very beginning of your search, you might also find it helpful to read my guide on how to choose a wedding photographer in Surrey without feeling overwhelmed.
Why Choosing the Right Photographer Feels So Hard
For many couples, photography is one of the most emotionally loaded parts of wedding planning.
Your photos aren’t just for the day itself, they’re what you’ll return to years from now. They’ll remind you how it felt to be there, not just how it looked. That’s why choosing the right photographer matters more than people often realise.
A good photographer doesn’t just take photos; they notice moments, emotion, connection, and atmosphere. And that starts with feeling comfortable around them.
Questions to Ask Wedding Photographer Before You Book
If you’re unsure where to start, these are some of the most important things to ask your wedding photographer, and yourselves, to help you make the right decision.
Will we feel comfortable around them on the day?
This is one of the biggest worries couples have, even if they don’t always say it out loud.
If you’re not comfortable, it shows in the photos. A calm, unobtrusive photographer helps you relax, forget about the camera, and enjoy your day as it naturally unfolds. My aim is to blend into the background as much as possible, so you can forget about me and just be yourself.
If you’re drawn to candid photography, this is especially important. The best natural wedding photos happen when people aren’t forcing themselves to look a certain way; they’re simply going about their wedding day as if the photographer isn’t there.
What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
Almost everyone does — and that’s completely normal.
If you’re looking for wedding photography Surrey couples actually enjoy, your photographer should guide you gently during couple photos without making you feel posed or self-conscious, and then allow you to enjoy the rest of the day as it unfolds.
The best moments often happen when you’re not thinking about the camera at all.
Have you photographed weddings like ours before?
This doesn’t necessarily mean the same venue. When the focus of the photos is on emotions and moments rather than the setting, prior venue experience matters far less.
What does help is understanding the feel of your day. For example, you might be having your ceremony in one location and your reception in another, or you may have chosen a more unusual venue, like this restaurant wedding reception I photographed earlier this year.
If these are things your photographer has experienced before, it can help the day run more smoothly because they know what to expect.
Whether your wedding is relaxed, intimate, lively or emotional, your photographer should adapt to you, not the other way around.
If you’re browsing wedding photos Surrey, notice which galleries feel natural rather than staged.
What’s included, and what can we expect after the wedding?
This is one of the most important things to ask your wedding photographer. You’ll want to understand:
How many images you’ll receive
How long editing takes
How your photos will be delivered
An understanding of costs
By having this information early, you can avoid any stress later on. (You can find all of this information at the bottom of my homepage.)
Why Connection Matters More Than Perfection
Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot, it’s a day full of emotion, connection, and fleeting moments.
The right photographer will help you feel present, calm and confident. When you feel at ease, your photos naturally reflect that. That’s why I always bring a relaxed, chilled-out energy to each wedding I photograph, and why I work best with couples who share that same mindset.
Choosing someone whose approach aligns with you really does make all the difference.

How to Choose a Wedding Photographer in Surrey (Without Feeling Overwhelmed)
Choosing a wedding photographer in Surrey can feel overwhelming, especially when you want your photos to feel natural, relaxed and genuinely you. This guide shares what really matters when choosing a photographer, the questions worth asking, and how to find someone you’ll feel comfortable with on your wedding day.
Choosing a wedding photographer can feel surprisingly daunting. You might love certain photos but still wonder if that person is right for you. You might be worrying about feeling awkward in front of the camera, or whether you’ll actually enjoy being photographed on the day.
If you’re searching for a wedding photographer in Surrey, you’re probably not just looking for beautiful images; you’re looking for someone you can trust to capture your day in a way that feels natural, relaxed and genuinely you.
This guide is here to help you feel calmer and more confident in your decision. I’ll talk through what really matters when choosing a photographer, the questions worth asking, and what you can expect from the process — all from the perspective of someone who photographs weddings across Surrey and Hampshire and sees this from the inside.
Why Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer Matters
You might have heard the wedding planning tip that suggests choosing three things to prioritise or “splurge” on, and in my (obviously biased) opinion, your photography should be one of them.
Your wedding photos aren’t just for today. They’re for the quiet moments years from now when you’re reminiscing about your wedding day. They’ll bring you right back to how you felt in that moment. They’re something your grandchildren might one day find and say, “Wow, look at these wedding photos!”
A good photographer doesn’t just document events; they notice the small, honest moments in between. They’ll capture the squeeze of a hand, a nervous laugh before the ceremony, the way your friends look at you when you’re not watching.
As a Surrey wedding photographer, I focus on candid photography and creating space for those moments to happen naturally, without forcing anything or pulling you away from the joy of the day. My aim is always to document your wedding as it truly unfolds.
How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer in Surrey
You’ve probably already searched something like “wedding photographer Surrey UK”, seen the huge number of results, and felt a little overwhelmed. There are a lot of us out there! So how do you know who’s right for you?
Here are a few things that really matter.
Do you feel comfortable with them?
You’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your wedding day. Feeling relaxed and understood makes a huge difference; not just to your experience, but to how your photos look and feel.
That doesn’t mean they should be the centre of attention. In fact, if you’re drawn to candid wedding photography, the best photographers are often the ones you barely notice. I often hear couples say they forgot I was even there, which is exactly how it should feel. When you’re comfortable, your photos become natural and full of real emotion.
Do their photos feel natural to you?
Notice how people interact in their images. Do the moments feel genuine? Are the emotions real? Do the photos feel timeless rather than overly styled or trendy?
If you’re drawn to candid wedding photos, you’ll likely love a documentary or reportage style of photography. This is the approach I specialise in, capturing moments as they happen, without awkward posing or interruption. You can browse through my portfolio of wedding photos in Surrey, Hampshire and beyond to see whether that style feels right for you.
Do they understand the kind of day you want?
Whether you’re planning something intimate or full of energy, your photographer should adapt to your pace, not the other way around.
A good photographer will always offer to chat before you book, so you can talk through your plans, your priorities, and what matters most to you. It’s also a chance to see whether you feel comfortable and understood, which is just as important as loving their photos.
things to ask your wedding photographer
If you’re unsure what to ask, you’re not alone. Many couples search for things like “questions to ask wedding photographer” or “things to ask your wedding photographer”, and that’s completely normal.
Here are a few helpful ones to consider:
How do you capture natural moments without lots of posing?
How many photos will we receive?
How long does it take to get our gallery back?
Can we see a full wedding gallery?
Most professional photographers will also have an FAQ section that answers many of these questions in advance.
Candid Wedding Photography in Surrey – What It Really Means
Candid wedding photography isn’t about pretending the camera isn’t there, it’s about creating space for genuine moments to unfold naturally.
It’s perfect for couples who feel a little awkward in front of the camera, or who want their day to feel relaxed rather than staged. It’s also ideal for couples who value emotion over perfection.
As a candid wedding photographer in Surrey, my role is to quietly observe and document your day as it naturally unfolds, without interrupting the flow or pulling you away from your guests.
Wedding Photography in Surrey: What About Pricing?
As someone who has recently planned a wedding myself, I was genuinely surprised by how few photographers share their pricing openly.
Often, this is because people don’t always understand what goes into Surrey wedding photography prices, and that’s completely fair.
A few things that influence cost:
Experience: A photographer with years of experience will charge more than someone just starting out.
Coverage time: A full-day wedding involves far more work than just the hours spent shooting.
Editing: A single wedding can take 30–40+ hours to carefully edit and prepare.
Running a business: Equipment, insurance, travel, software, and taxes all play a part.
For a more detailed explanation of wedding photography packages, read my other blog here. While pricing can feel overwhelming, the most important thing is choosing someone whose work and approach genuinely resonate with you. Photography is one of the few parts of your wedding that becomes more valuable over time.
Wedding Photos Surrey: Why Location Matters
Surrey offers such a beautiful mix of countryside, historic buildings and relaxed town settings; all of which add depth and character to your photos.
If you’ve been browsing wedding photos in Surrey, you might notice that the most meaningful images aren’t about the location itself, but about the connection between people within it.
Some couples worry if their photographer hasn’t worked at their venue before. In reality, this rarely matters, especially for candid wedding photography. A professional photographer will always visit or research the location beforehand to understand the light and layout, so don’t let this influence your decision.
What Happens After the Wedding?
After your day, you’ll receive a carefully edited online gallery that tells the full story; from the quiet, emotional moments to the celebrations on the dance floor.
Many couples tell me they notice moments they didn’t even realise were happening, and that’s often what makes their photos so special.

The Art of Candid Wedding Photography: Natural Moments That Last Forever
Your wedding day is a collection of beautiful moments that unfold naturally, filled with love, laughter, and tears of joy. These candid moments capture the true essence of your special day, and they are the memories you'll treasure forever. In this guide, we'll delve into the art of candid wedding photography and why it's essential for preserving the authenticity and beauty of your wedding day.
Candid Wedding Photos: Capturing Real Emotions
Candid wedding photos, also known as photojournalistic or documentary style photography, focuses on capturing real emotions and unscripted moments. It's about telling the unique story of your wedding day through images that are genuine, heartfelt, and unposed. Here are some reasons why candid wedding photography is a must for your big day:
1. Authentic Moments
Candid photography is all about authenticity. It allows your photographer to capture the unfiltered emotions and interactions between you, your partner, and your loved ones. These are the moments that reflect your true personalities and the love you share.
2. Emotional Depth
Shots taken by a candid photographer often reveal the depth of emotions experienced on your wedding day. From the tears of joy during the vows to the laughter shared during the reception, these images evoke powerful feelings that transport you back to those moments.
3. Storytelling
Your wedding day is a unique story, and a candid wedding photoshoot is the perfect way to tell it. Each candid shot contributes to the narrative, creating a visual journey that captures the essence of your celebration.
4. Spontaneity
Some of the most beautiful and memorable moments are unplanned. Candid wedding pictures embrace spontaneity, allowing your documentary wedding photographer to capture the unexpected, whether it's a stolen kiss, a heartfelt embrace, or a joyful dance.
How to Incorporate Candid Photos into Your Wedding
If you're interested in embracing candid wedding photos, here are some tips to ensure you capture those natural moments that will last a lifetime:
1. Choose a Skilled Candid Wedding Photographer
Selecting the right documentary wedding photographer is crucial. Look for a photographer with experience in candid and documentary-style photography. Review their portfolio to ensure their work aligns with your vision.
2. Share Your Vision for your candid wedding pictures
Communicate your preferences and the kind of candid moments you hope to capture with your photographer. Share your love story, special traditions, and any particular events or guests you want to highlight.
3. Trust Your Photographer
Once you've found the right documentary wedding photographer, trust their expertise. Let them work their magic during the wedding photoshoot, as they are skilled in recognising and capturing candid moments as they happen.
4. Be Natural
One of the best things you can do is to be yourselves. Forget about the camera and the poses, and simply enjoy your day. Be present in the moment, and your natural interactions and emotions will shine through.
5. Capture the Surroundings
Candid wedding photography isn't limited to people; it also extends to the environment. Your venue, decor, and the details of your wedding day are essential elements in telling the full story. Make sure your photographer captures these aspects as well.
Candid photography is a beautiful art form that allows you to relive the real emotions and moments of your wedding day. Choosing the Perfect Wedding Photography Style for Your Big Day
Selecting the perfect wedding photography style for your big day is a decision that can significantly impact the essence of your wedding album. As you plan your wedding, you'll discover various wedding photography styles to choose from, each offering a unique perspective. In this guide, we'll delve into the world of wedding photography styles, with a focus on the documentary style (often referred to as reportage or photojournalistic), and help you make an informed decision to capture the authentic essence of your special day.
Understanding Wedding Photography Styles
When it comes to wedding photography, there's a wealth of styles to choose from. Each style brings its own artistic flair to your wedding memories. Here are some of the most popular wedding photography styles:
Traditional Wedding Photography: This classic style focuses on posed, formal shots. A meticulous shot list ensures all expected family and group photos are captured. It results in timeless, well-composed images.
Photojournalistic Wedding Photography: Reportage or documentary style, this approach thrives on capturing candid moments and emotions. It narrates the story of your wedding day as it unfolds, focusing on authenticity and spontaneity.
Fine Art Wedding Photography: Creativity and artistry define this style. Expect unique compositions, dramatic lighting, and attention to small details. Fine art photography aims to create visually stunning and almost cinematic images.
Vintage Wedding Photography: Vintage styles encompass a variety of sub-genres, such as retro, sepia-toned, or black and white photography. These styles evoke nostalgia and timelessness.
Contemporary Wedding Photography: A blend of modern and traditional styles, contemporary photography combines posed shots with candid moments, often with a creative twist. It's versatile and captures the essence of your day in an innovative way.
Why Choose the Photojournalistic Style?
The photojournalistic style, also known as documentary wedding photography, stands out for its unique approach:
Authentic Moments: Documentary photography focuses on authentic moments and emotions. It captures the genuine smiles, laughter, and tears that define your wedding day.
Unobtrusive: Reportage photographers work discreetly, blending into the background. This allows them to capture candid moments without interrupting the flow of your day.
Natural Storytelling: Your wedding day is a story, and documentary photography tells it naturally and unscripted. The resulting images are an authentic reflection of your day, preserving the genuine emotions and connections.
Choosing the Documentary Style for Your Wedding
Selecting the documentary style for your wedding photography is an expression of your desire to capture your day in the most natural and genuine way. Here are some key factors to consider:
Your Personal Style: Reflect on your own preferences. If you value authentic, candid moments, reportage photography might be the perfect choice.
Emotions and Moments: Think about the emotions and moments you want to remember. Reportage photography excels at capturing these genuine, heartfelt moments.
Open Communication: Engage in open communication with your chosen photographer. Share your expectations and preferences for your wedding album.
Capturing Authentic Moments
Choosing the photojournalistic style for your wedding photography ensures that your wedding day is captured as a beautiful, unscripted story. To make the most of this style, it's essential to have a detailed discussion with your documentary photographer. Share your vision, preferences, and any specific moments you want to ensure are captured.
In conclusion, selecting the right wedding photography style is a critical decision when planning your wedding. The documentary style, with its emphasis on authenticity and unscripted storytelling, can beautifully capture your unique day. Eco friendly wedding planning - Tips to help you plan an eco conscious wedding
Eco friendly wedding planning - Tips to help you plan an eco conscious wedding. Ever thought about trying to make your wedding more eco friendly? Getting married is one of the most exciting events in many people’s lifetimes so naturally many people choose to go all out. But we’ve got to admit that all the wedding favours, transport and confetti can all create quite the carbon footprint. Not to mention the food waste and decorations too - it’s something many of us don’t often think about during the wedding planning whirlwind. Planning an eco friendly wedding is becoming more important than ever. If you’re considering going about your wedding planning sustainably, I’ve included a few achievable ways that you can do so.
Ever thought about trying to make your wedding more eco friendly? Getting married is one of the most exciting events in many people’s lifetimes so naturally many people choose to go all out. But we’ve got to admit that all the wedding favors, transport and confetti can all create quite the carbon footprint. Not to mention the food waste and decorations too - it’s something many of us don’t often think about during the wedding planning whirlwind. Between choosing the right wedding photographer, and finding the best wedding venue for your big day, planning an eco friendly wedding is becoming more important and popular than ever. If you’re considering going about your wedding planning sustainably, I’ve included a few achievable ways that you can do so.
Grow your own wedding bouquet
If you’re got green fingers and a little extra time on your hands why not consider growing your own wedding flowers. Not only is this a more sustainable way of creating your wedding bouquet, it’s also more meaningful and memorable too.
If this isn’t something you want to do, consider opting for a local florist to arrange your bouquet and ask them to source their flowers locally and sustainably. Another idea would be to donate your flowers to a hospice or local hospital too to avoid them going to waste.
Limit the amount of printed wedding stationery
Another tip to help you when planning a more eco conscious and ethical wedding is to consider your wedding stationery choices. While a printed invitation is lovely to have, many couples are choosing to use wedding websites such as simplyjoy.com instead. Not only is this a more eco conscious way to plan a wedding by cutting down on paper, it’s a much cheaper option than paying out for wedding stationery too.
If you decide you still want printed wedding stationery, printing on seeded paper is a great option. This is a great way for your wedding guests to repurpose your stationery after the wedding by planting their invitations and watching them grow into a beautiful plant. It’s a beautiful and sustainable way for everyone to remember your wedding day.
Try second hand sites
From second hand wedding dresses to unwanted wedding decorations. Ethical purchases are something more and more people are taking into account. Choosing to shop pre used wedding items can be a great way to reduce waste and help you to keep your wedding planning as eco friendly and ethical as possible. It’s also a great way to keep your wedding costs down. Search on facebook marketplace or scour your local wedding facebook pages to see what people are giving away. You’ll be surprised how much you can find! Charity shops are also a great place to find so hidden gems.
Choose your location carefully
Another way to keep your wedding eco conscious is to consider the location of your wedding venue. With airplanes being one of the top contributors to environmental damage, it’s a good idea to think about how and how far your guests will have to travel to get to your wedding. Where you choose to get married is completely your choice, but if you’re trying to plan your wedding more sustainably, transport could be something you might want to consider. If you’re torn between a few wedding venues then take a look at their location and think about which one requires the least amount of travel for your guests.
The perfect wedding doesn’t exist
While it’s important to all do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint, there is no such thing as the perfect wedding. It’s almost impossible to keep the entirety of your wedding eco friendly and 100% ethical so don’t stress too much about the sustainability of every last detail. The fact you’re even considering planning an eco conscious wedding puts you miles ahead of many!
How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer For You
Wedding Venue…tick, the wedding dress…tick, but what’s the one thing that will remain an everlasting memory of your wedding day? Your wedding photos. They’re the one thing you’ll have after all the celebrations are over to remember the special memories for years to come, which is why you want to choose your photographer wisely.
Maybe you’ve googled ‘local wedding photographers near me’ or ‘best wedding photographers in Surrey’ and you’re quickly realising how many local wedding photographers near you exist, and you’re unsure about how to choose the right wedding photographer for your needs. Or maybe you know you need to start looking for someone to take your wedding pictures but you just don’t know where to begin. Here’s a few key things to look out for when choosing the right wedding photographer for you so you can have a picture perfect wedding like you’ve always dreamed of.
Determine your budget:
First and foremost, decide how much you’re comfortable spending. The amount you choose to spend on your wedding photography is completely your choice but to give you a rough idea, the average uk wedding photographer costs between £1500-£2000. Any cheaper than this and there’s a chance you’ll end up with low quality images that you’ll be stuck with for a lifetime but remember to factor in your other big costs too. If you’re planning on hiring out one of the best wedding venues in Surrey for example, then that will end up costing more than a small intimate wedding venue. So make sure to find the right wedding photographer for you within a budget that suits.
What style of photography do you like?
There are so many styles of wedding photography for you to choose from. Do you like natural and candid wedding photography, dark and moody photos, posed couple photos, or funny wedding photos? Search for local wedding photographers in your area and have a look through social media sites like Pinterest to get an idea of what style feels right for you.
If you want a picture perfect wedding, you want your wedding photos to be timeless and age with you, take note of the way a photographer edits their photos. What might be on trend now, probably won’t be in a few years time. To avoid your photos looking outdated, aim to choose a wedding photographer with a natural editing style. Be aware that overly edited photos can sometimes be a coverup for bad quality images and won’t reflect the true story of your wedding day.
What kind of couple are you?
Maybe you love being in front of the camera and you have no problem with lots of posed couple shots, or maybe you’re the complete opposite and feel quite intimidated by the idea of having your photo taken but you still want a picture perfect wedding. If this is the case you’re probably after a more relaxed and candid photo style. No matter what kind of couple you are, it’s important to find a photographer whose style suits you and who you can feel comfortable around.
Have a browse through a few local wedding photographers websites and see what type of images they take. If you can imagine yourself in those photos then that’s a sign that they might be a good fit for you.
Reach Out
Once you’ve found a photographer you like, get in touch with them and arrange to meet. This could be done over the phone, in person or through a video call depending on what works best for everyone. When meeting your photographer ask to see some examples of a full wedding. Discuss what photos you would like if you’ve got some in mind, and the type of style you’re looking for. It’s also important to ask questions about their packages and pricing. Find out what’s included in each package and decide what might fit best for your budget.
Are they the photographer for you?
If you’ve asked all of the questions and feel like they might be the best photographer for you, then it’s time to look at how you felt during your meeting. Did the photographer make you feel at ease? Can you picture them taking photos of you? And most importantly, did you feel comfortable around them? Remember they’ll be at your side on your wedding day so you want to make sure you feel happy having them there.
With the right photographer you can enjoy a stress free wedding day and beautiful photos to look back on for years to come.
Wedding Planning Tips for the Laid Back Couple
Wedding Planning Tips for the Laid Back Couple.
Laid back, stress free and full of fun with family and friends - sounds like the perfect wedding day doesn’t it? More and more couples are ditching the traditional wedding and opting for relaxed and informal weddings, a microwedding or elopement an instead. I’ve compiled a list of 5 tips to planning a laid back wedding that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
Location is Key
One of the most important factors to planning a relaxed wedding day is the venue. It’s one of the first things most couples consider when wedding planning and it sets the tone for the whole day, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for.
Are you planning to hire out one of the best wedding venues in Surrey? Maybe you’d rather stick to a smaller venue such as this wedding I shot at a venue called Blake Hall in Essex. Its completely up to you whether you decide to invite lots of people or whether you want to plan on having a small wedding with only a few family and friends. If you’re reading this blog then you’re probably planning a more relaxed event; i’ve listed a few low key wedding venue ideas below that you might consider:
Airbnb wedding
Woodland wedding
Barn wedding
A tipi or a marquee wedding
A wedding at home or an intimate garden wedding
Farm wedding
Beach wedding
If you need more inspiration, I’ve written a whole blog post about some of the best wedding venues to consider in Surrey and Hampshire here!
The guestlist
We’ve all got certain people we feel obliged to invite to events when in reality you haven’t spoken to them in years. This can add unnecessary stress to your wedding day rather than the laid back vibe you’re after. If you don’t really care about chatting to that friend you haven’t spoken to in 5 years or your great great aunt Gertrude - don’t invite them.
Remember your day is about you and the people you choose to spend it with. If you’d rather have a more intimate wedding with only your nearest and dearest then make that a priority. Your wedding day will fly by and I’m sure you’d rather not spend it making small talk with people you don’t normally choose to spend your time with. Relax, have fun and spend the day with people you love and care about. Keeping your guestlist short can have the added bonus of keeping down costs too!
The Food
If you’d rather avoid the headache of creating a formal seating plan, or you’re a shy couple worried about all eyes being on you at the top table, then why not consider alternative dining options. Wedding catering food trucks are becoming more and more popular amongst couples when planning a wedding. No stressful seating arrangements, just a few food vans full of whatever cuisine you fancy! You could even provide home cooked food options if this is something you want to do. This option works especially well for outdoor weddings and allows you and your wedding guests to mingle freely with whoever you want!
Go Unplugged
Imagine walking down the aisle and looking up to see all of your wonderful guests happy and excited to see you - but they’re watching you through their phone camera. It kind of ruins the moment doesn’t it? Many couples are deciding to ban phones and photos during their wedding ceremony. There’s nothing worse than looking back at your wedding photos and seeing people with their phones, or having to experience flashes from photos as you’re walking down the aisle. By preventing guests from using their phones during your ceremony you’re also ensuring that nobody is posting your personal wedding photos on their social media before you’ve had the chance to experience them yourself.
The Photographer
This leads us nicely to choosing your wedding photographer. Knowing how to choose the right wedding photographer can be tricky. Just like how you don’t want your guests shoving a phone camera in your face, you probably don’t really want that from your photographer either. There’s nothing worse than having your wedding photographer showing up with a huge camera lens and interrupting a personal moment with family and friends, or forcing you into uncomfortable poses that really don’t feel like you. To avoid this, it’s important to do your research to ensure you’re hiring the best wedding photographer for you. I’ve written a blog post all about how to choose the right wedding photographer here.
If you’re after an unobtrusive and relaxed photographer who focuses on capturing the natural and candid moments of your wedding day then feel free to get in touch. I cover all areas of Surrey and Hampshire but frequently travel all over the Uk too!
How to Coordinate the Perfect Surrey Wedding
Your step by step guide to help you plan your wedding from the perspective of a Surrey wedding photographer.
Congratulations on your engagement! I’m sure you’ve celebrated with family and friends and now you’re wondering what to do next. Wedding planning can be overwhelming, especially when you search for things like wedding photographer Surrey UK or wedding photos Surrey and see so much information.
Whether you’re planning a small, intimate micro wedding or a larger celebration, this step-by-step guide will help you plan a stress-free day. Along the way, I’ll also highlight key moments when you should think about booking your Surrey wedding photography, how to choose the right Surrey photographer, and things to ask your wedding photographer when the time comes.
Your wedding budget
Start by setting your budget for the whole day. A wedding photographer is one of the few vendors whose work you’ll look back on for years to come; your wedding photos become heirlooms. As you build your budget, make sure you include a photography budget that allows you to hire someone you genuinely think will capture the real moments of your day.
Look for Ideas and inspiration
Pinterest, magazines, and blogs are great places to gather ideas. While you’re exploring, pay attention to the kinds of wedding photos you love; candid, documentary, classic, editorial, or a mix.
As you collect ideas, make a note of the style of photos you want, as this will help when you’re ready to search for a photographer whose work matches your taste. I specialise in candid and documentary photos which you can see examples of here.
Choose a Theme (and Think About Photos)
Picking a theme helps inform everything from the colour palette to the vibe of your wedding day. As you think about your theme, imagine how you want your photos to look when you look back on them.
Do you want relaxed, natural images that feel like real moments? Or are you drawn to more formal, posed photography? Knowing this early helps guide your photographer search later.
The Venue (With Photos in Mind)
Your venue sets the tone — but it also affects your photos. Whether you’re choosing a grand estate or an intimate town venue, think about:
Natural light and backdrop opportunities
Portrait locations nearby
Cozy indoor spaces for rainy days
If you need inspiration, you can check out this blog on Surrey’s Bush Hotel wedding photography, which shows how a venue’s character enhances the wedding photos Surrey couples treasure.
The Guest List and Photographer Timing
Once you know the type of wedding you’re planning, start thinking about your photographer’s role in the day. If you’re having an intimate guest list, you might lean toward more natural, documentary photos where everyone feels relaxed. If you have a larger event, consider discussing coverage and timeline with your chosen photographer earlier rather than later.
Booking Your Photographer
This step is important. Wedding photographers in Surrey get booked early. Many couples secure their photographer 12–18 months before their date. When you’re ready to start reaching out, you might want to check out my guide on how to choose a wedding photographer in Surrey without feeling overwhelmed to understand the kind of questions you should ask your photographer.
Key things to ask:
What’s your availability for our date?
Do you specialise in candid or documentary-style photography?
How many photos will we receive and how are they delivered?
You can expand with the questions to ask your wedding photographer from the guide mentioned above as well.
Planning Your Suppliers
Once your venue and date are secured, it’s tempting to feel like you need to lock in everything straight away. My advice is to prioritise the suppliers who will have the biggest impact on how your day feels, not just how it looks. Your photographer is one of those people.
You’ll spend a large portion of your day with them, during the quieter moments as well as the celebrations, so choosing someone whose presence feels calming and supportive really matters. When you feel comfortable, everything flows more naturally, and that’s when the most meaningful photos happen.
Leaving Space for Real Moments
One of the biggest contributors to natural wedding photos isn’t the venue or the styling, it’s time.
A relaxed timeline gives space for moments to unfold without rushing. It means you’re not constantly thinking about what’s next, and you can actually enjoy where you are.
If candid, documentary-style wedding photography is important to you, this breathing room is what allows real moments, emotion and connection to shine through in your photos.
Trusting the Process on the Day
By the time your wedding day arrives, the planning is already done. The best thing you can do then is let go and be present.
You don’t need to worry about posing, looking a certain way, or performing for the camera. A good photographer will quietly observe and step in only when needed, allowing you to focus on the people and moments that matter most.
This is where experience and a calm approach make all the difference.
Why Your Photos Will Mean More With Time
Your wedding photos aren’t just about capturing details, they’re about preserving feeling.
Years from now, it won’t be the styling choices you return to first. It’ll be the way someone looked at you, the laughter, the emotion, the fleeting moments you didn’t even realise were happening.
That’s why choosing a photographer whose approach aligns with you is so important.
Looking for a Wedding Photographer in Surrey Who Keeps Things Relaxed and Natural?
If you’re currently planning your wedding and looking for a wedding photographer in Surrey, I’d love to hear about your day.
